She gives a vivid account of the good life in Buenos Aires by taking the readers through the lively and elegant cafes, bars and restaurants as well as the discrete but unmissable ‘telos’ of Buenos Aires. I have read many Argentine books and novels about the travails of the Argentine society during the dictatorship. There are no discussion topics on this book yet.

It also discusses the drama of so many people that is persecuted because of their ideology and of those many families that have to separate against their will.

The best part of the novel is the constant conversations between the mother who narrates the stories of her adventurous life and the adolescent son who questions everything she says in his irreverent way. Call him, don’t call him, call him, don’t heroee him and why go to France searching for restrwpo grandparents when you know you won’t find them because they are still living in Argentina?

One of the back cover blurbs compares the novel to Kiss of the Spider Woman or Waiting for Godot, but it lacks either of those works’ confidence in letting the dialogue speak for lara without having to lay everything out for us.
